CHARLOTTE – If your go-to restaurant or squishy armchair is not doing the trick, nothing decompresses bottled-up tension quite like a tried-and-true dose of fresh air, live music and exercise – all of which are readily available at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
Several events are in-store this month, with some activities accompanied by sneakers and sweat, like races and relays, while others offer fireworks and food.
Every Thursday at 6:30 p.m., a River Jam Run is open to runners of all skill levels and ages, with distance options ranging from 1.5 to 6 miles.
A trail race edition of the River Jam Run, happening Aug. 14, offers prizes and varying distances and will be followed up with live music. Series titles are also available if the participants take part in a minimum of three races. Each race is limited to 200 participants.
The River Jam Concert Series will occur 7-10 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays, featuring new bands and artists each week. Some of the upcoming performers include Big Drop Party, The London Souls, The Dirty Beggars, Cedric Burnside, The Ballroom Thieves and The Get Right Band.
Spend your Labor Day weekend celebrating!
The daylong festivities will commence with 15K and 5K Labor Day Trail Races in the morning. Awards, live music, refreshments and raffle prizes will continue through the day. The day will finally come to a close with a brilliant display of fi reworks over the whitewater river.
On Aug. 6, the Charlotte Mountain Bike Summer Series will occur at the U.S. National Whitewater Center.
Racers must fi nish as many laps as possible in a certain time frame. The various courses fluctuate in distance and obstacles and are sure to challenge all mountain bike enthusiasts.
In addition to the Labor Day Trail Race and Celebration is the Quadzilla Relay, a race comprised of individual paddle boarding, mountain biking, whitewater kayaking and a fi nal team raft race.
