Hopewell student makes National Merit Scholarship semi-finals

HUNTERSVILLE – Hopewell student Emily Andreoli is a semifinalist in the 56th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. She is among 16,000 high school seniors nationwide competing for 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million, to be awarded next spring.

The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.

Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. More than 1.5 million high school juniors in over 22,000 high schools nationally entered the 2011 program by taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
