School Notes for November 5: Lincoln Charter receives Learn and Serve grant

DENVER – Lincoln Charter received a matching Learn and Serve grant of more than $15,000 from Communities and Schools, the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and the federal government. The school will match the total funds granted.

This is the second consecutive year the school has received the Learn and Serve grant, which helps to fund the school’s “Learn.Serve.Engage.” Program.  Through the program, the school documents student service hours and promotes the integration of service with curriculum.

As part of the 2009-10 program, Lincoln Charter students in grades 6 through 12 logged about 20,000 service hours.

Students in kindergarten through 12th grade will participate in the initiative this school year, working with the student groups, Leadership Institute and Project Ignition. In addition to various class projects, students will attend the National Youth Leadership Conference.
