Hopewell wins $5,000 sports grant

Hopewell High School received a $5,000 Responsible Sports Community Grant last week to support the school’s athletics program.
Hopewell’s athletic boosters was one of 20 organizations nationwide to receive money in recognition of their responsible sports parents and coaches.
The grants, sponsored by Liberty Mutual, are awarded in each of three divisions: Large youth sports organizations, with more than 100 players, small youth sports organizations, with fewer than 100 players, and school athletic programs.
In order to be eligible for the Responsible Sports Community Grant, organizations must register with Responsible Sports, Liberty Mutual’s program supporting volunteer youth sports coaches and parents. Once registered, organizations mobilize volunteers and coaches to complete Responsible Sports Parenting and Responsible Coaching coursework and to take a quiz on the material. Those who pass receive certificates crediting the organization, and the organizations earning the most credited certifications win grant money.
Launched in September of 2007, Liberty mutual has awarded in six grant seasons more than $315,000 in community grant money to more than 121 sports organizations.
