Lincoln Charter plans Talon Challenge to benefit cancer research

Lincoln Charter school teams up with Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in Mooresboro for the second annual Talon Challenge Dec. 10.

The challenge combines friendly competition and community service. The schools have organized a blood drive, a run between campuses and cancer awareness activities. All events lead up to basketball games between the schools.

Last year, the Talon Challenge raised more than $4,400 through sponsorships, donations and T-shirt sales for the V Foundation for cancer research. Supporters also donated more than 100 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.

The schools are accepting donations and will hold Red Cross blood drives Dec. 7 at Lincoln Charter’s Denver campus and Dec. 15 at the Lincolnton campus.

Schedule of Talon Challenge events:

Dec. 7: Red Cross blood drive at Lincoln Charter’s Denver campus, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Dec. 8: Game-ball run begins at Denver campus, continues Dec. 9.

Dec. 10: Basketball games at Thomas Jefferson academy, beginning with middle school girls at 4 p.m.

Dec. 15: Red Cross blood drive at Lincoln Charter’s Lincolnton campus.
