School Notes for November 26

• Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Gaston County Schools: Schools are closed Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 24 through 26, for Thanksgiving.

• Coulwood Middle School: The school hosts a senior citizen breakfast Dec. 4 from 8 to 10 a.m. The meal is sponsored by Coulwood staff, students and community members. Call the school, 980-343-6069, with any questions.

• East Gaston High: The school distributes report cards Thursday, Dec. 2.

• Francis Bradley Middle: The School Leadership Team meets Thursday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m.

• Hopewell High School: The school holds rehearsals for “The Christmas Belle” in the auditorium Monday, Nov. 29, through Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m. each weekday. Performances of “The Christmas Belle” take place at Dec. 8 through 11 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

• Lake Norman Charter: Applications for the 2011-12 school year lottery are available at the middle and high school campuses, as well as on the school’s website, www.lncs.org. The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.

• Long Creek Elementary: The school’s honors choir meets Dec. 1, 8 and 15 at 7:30 a.m. … The Parent-Teacher Association holds a general meeting Thursday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m., including a holiday concert by the students. … The school’s Chess Club meets Dec. 3, 10 and 17 at 7:30 a.m.

• Mount Holly Middle: The school seeks donations to help Gaston County Cancer Services, including soups, Gatorade, Powerade and meal replacement drinks such as Ensure and Boost.

• Mountain Island Charter: The school hosts two holiday musical programs on Dec. 8. Kindergarten and first-grade students perform at 5:30 p.m., and second- and third-graders perform at 7 p.m. Sixth- and seventh-graders perform Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. with select fifth-graders performing a pre-show at 6 p.m. …The school will hold its admissions lottery for kindergarten through eighth grade Feb. 5 at 9 a.m. at the New Covenant United Methodist Church. Applications will be available through the school’s website, micharter.org. The application period closes at 11:59 p.m. Jan. 7.

• Mountain Island Elementary: The PTA executive board meets Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 9:45 a.m. … The PTA board meets Thursday, Dec. 2, at 5:30 p.m. … The school invites parents, students and community members to a holiday expo Thursday, Dec. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the school. Arts, crafts and other items will be available for sale.

• Paw Creek Elementary: Sonic restaurant on Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road hosts a Paw Creek Elementary family night Dec. 3 from 2:30 to 8 p.m., with a portion of the evening’s proceeds going to the school’s PTA.

• Pine Lake Preparatory: The school is now accepting online enrollment applications at www.pinelakeprep.org.

• Ramah Christian Classical School: The school closes Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 24 through 26, for Thanksgiving.


• River Oaks Academy:
The school’s band will perform two more parades and holiday celebrations this year: the Mount Holly Christmas Parade, in downtown Mount Holly, Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m.; and the Hopewell High School Christmas Show, at 11530 Beatties Ford Road, Huntersville, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

• St. Mark Catholic: The eighth grade holds a bake sale during lunch Wednesday, Dec. 1.  Proceeds benefit the eighth-grade teaching team. … The school holds its annual Carols in the Courtyard concert Dec. 3, with third-, fourth- and fifth-grade classes performing.  … The school closes Dec. 8 to observe the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. … The school’s band performs Dec. 9 and the choir performs Dec. 10 at Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Huntersville. A portion of the sales on those days will benefit St. Mark. … The school’s website is www.stmarkcatholicschool.net.

• Whitewater Academy: The school begins selling tickets to its Winter Dance on Monday, Nov. 29. … Parents enjoy a Parents Night Out on Dec. 3 from 2 to 6 p.m.
