Mecklenburg PTA Council hosts CMS budget discussion

The Mecklenburg PTA Council hosts a meeting for parents and PTA leaders Feb. 26 at the Metro School, 405 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte, to discuss the district’s 2011-12 budget. All parents and interested members of the community are invited to attend.

“Understanding the proposed budget and how the various funding components are assembled into a school system budget will help us all to be fuller partners in the discussion of how to ensure all children reach their highest educational potential,” Mecklenburg PTA Council president Joni Trobich said in a news release.

The morning meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration and light refreshments. Dr. Peter Gorman and members of his executive staff, including CMS Chief Financial Officer Sheila Shirley, will present the preliminary budget proposal for the 2011-12 school year. Eric Davis, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County School Board, will also be in attendance.

Mecklenburg Citizens for Education, (, will follow with a presentation of how the CMS budget is constructed, the different sources and limitations of funding, and the lengthy process of assembling all of these components into a working school system budget. A brief question and answer period will follow the presentation.
