Parent University classes address middle school transition

Parent University offers two classes at area schools next week:

• Mountain Island Elementary School, 7905 Pleasant Grove Road, Charlotte, hosts the next Parent University class Tuesday, Jan. 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. The class, “From beginning to middle – helping your child make a smooth transition to middle school,” is an interactive workshop addressing the transition process for rising sixth-graders.

The class will highlight some of the main points of stress for students and families, and will offer solutions to ease anxieties.

• Oakdale Elementary School, 1825 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, hosts the class, “Understanding College Savings” Thursday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the media center. The class answers questions about college savings programs and options, with specific focus on options for North Carolina residents.

To register for either class, complete and return a registration form, available at your child’s school or in the back of the Parent University Catalog, register online at www.cms.k12.nc.us under the “Parent University” link, or register at the door before class. Call 980-343-0318 with questions.
