School Notes for January 21

• Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools: Report cards are sent home Feb. 3.

• Corvian Community School: The school hosts an open house Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 9:30 a.m. This will be the school’s last open house for the year.

• East Gaston High: The school invites seniors and parents to a financial aid information meeting Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m.

• Francis Bradley Middle: Every Friday is Bradley Spirit Day. … The week of Jan. 24 is “No Name-calling Week.”

• Hopewell High School: Seniors attend a financial aid information night Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. … The school hosts an evening of celebration for Black History Month, with poetry, music and dance, beginning at 5 p.m. Jan. 29 in the auditorium.

• Lake Norman Charter: Applications for the 2011-12 school year lottery are available at the middle and high school campuses, 12435 S. Old Statesville Road, as well as on the school’s website, The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.

• Long Creek Elementary: The chess club meets Fridays at 7:30 a.m. in the media center. … The honors choir meets Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. in the music room.

• Mountain Island Charter: The school hosts curriculum nights as follows: Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 5:30 p.m. for kindergarten through second grade; Thursday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. for grades 6 and 7 and at 7 p.m. for grades 3 through 5. The conversations will begin with a large group session in the sanctuary to discuss the vertical alignment of the curriculum and then break out into grade-level sessions where teachers will lead the curriculum discussion for their individual grade levels.

• Mountain Island Elementary: The school presents the second-grade musical Thursday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m.

• Pine Lake Preparatory: High school students enjoy a winter formal at NorthStone Country Club Saturday, Jan. 22.  … The bard of directors meet Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in the upper school seminar room. … The school dismisses early Jan. 28.
