Bradley Middle collects soles to help souls

School collects shoes to help those in need

As an important part of the school’s “Random Acts of Kindness Week” this week, Francis Bradley Middle School students are collecting donations of new and gently-worn shoes to support Soles 4 Souls, a nonprofit that gives shoes to people who need them.

The Nashville-based Soles 4 Souls collects shoe donations from companies, community groups, churches and individuals and facilitates their distribution across the globe.

Started in 2005, the organization has given away more than 13 million pairs of shoes to people in 125 countries, including more than 1 million shoes sent to Louisiana gulf coast communities after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005.

Bradley students set a goal of collecting 100 pairs of shoes, which likely will be shipped to people in Haiti and anywhere else there is a need.

Some facts to consider, from the organization’s website, www.soles4souls.org:

• More than 1.5 billion pairs of shoes sit unused in American closets
• More than 300 million children worldwide are without shoes
• Soles 4 Souls delivers a pair of shoes every 7 seconds.

The school welcomes shoe donations through Friday, Feb. 18. Shoes may be sent in to school with students or dropped off at the front office.

For more information about making a donation, call the school office at 980-343-5750.
