First Baptist hosts Parent University’s interactive poverty workshop

HUNTERSVILLE – First Baptist Church Huntersville hosts an interactive workshop to help people better understand how to meet the needs of low-income families and families dealing with language barriers.

The program, “Understanding Barriers Families Face – An ESL Poverty Simulation,” aims to promote understanding of families’ circumstances through an interactive experience.

In the simulation, 39 to 85 participants are assigned roles in up to 26 different families. The “families” must then figure out how to provide for basic necessities and shelter over the course of four, 15-minute “weeks.”

The workshop begins at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 at the church, 119 N. Old Statesville Road.
