Lake Norman Charter raises $1,800 for children with cancer

HUNTERSVILLE  – The Lake Norman Charter Senior Class Advisory group  held a Hoops for Hope basketball tournament Feb. 9 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a pediatric cancer research center.

“Our goal in holding this event was to help children who are stricken with life-threatening diseases,” Lake Norman Charter senior Lauren Somloi said in a news release.

The event raised money through team registration fees, admission fees, donations, concessions sales and raffles.

Proceeds will help St. Jude in its ongoing fight against childhood cancer and other diseases.

“I was so proud to see all of the students in the senior class advisory come together and put a great deal of time, energy and passion into making this event a huge success,” senior class advisor and counselor Lucy Smith said in the release.

St. Jude relies on donations. To make a donation, call Lucy Smith at 704-875-3389. For more information about St. Jude, visit www.stjude.org.
