Mecklenburg PTAs host budget presentation

CHARLOTTE – The Mecklenburg PTA Council will host a presentation of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools budget Feb. 26 at 8:30 a.m. at the Metro School, 405 S. Davidson St.

Superintendent Peter Gorman and members of his executive staff, including Chief Financial Officer Sheila Shirley, will present the preliminary budget proposal for the 2011-12 school year. Eric Davis, chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Education, also will attend.

“Understanding the proposed budget and how the various funding components are assembled into a school system budget will help us all to be fuller partners in the discussion of how to ensure all children reach their highest educational potential,” Mecklenburg PTA Council President Joni Trobich said.

A brief question-and -answer period will follow the presentation, and then Mecklenburg Citizens for Education – – will offer a presentation about how the school district budget is constructed, different sources of funding and the process of assembling all those components into a whole.

Free parking will be available at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Education Center parking lot, across the street from Metro School. Please use the entrances on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
