Gaston Board of Education honor East Gaston High Eagle Scout

GASTONIA – The Gaston County Board of Education recognized East Gaston High School student Jacob Melton for earning his Eagle Scout designation, the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program, at a September meeting.
Melton, a member of Boy Scout Troop 49, based in Stanley, earned 26 merit badges and exemplified outstanding leadership to earn the rank, a news release from the district said.
“We are well aware that this is the highest honor a Boy Scout can achieve, and we are extremely proud of you,” board member Kevin Collier to Melton. “You truly represent all that is good in our young people, and we are extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding young man in our school system.”
As part of his community service project, Melton restored 62 tombstones at the Belmont Abbey College cemetery and worked as a volunteer for the East Gaston Volunteer Fire Department.
