Schools earn $5M in scholarships

CHARLOTTE – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Class of 2013 earned $93 million in scholarship money, as of June 10.

Providence High School earned the most with $16.1 million. Twenty of the district’s 28 comprehensive high schools reported at least $1 million in scholarships.

Mountain Island-area schools were as follows:

• Hopewell High reported 82 scholarships worth about $1.4 million. Academic scholarships accounted for $1.3 million, followed by $78,000 in military and $35,946 in athletic scholarships.

• West Mecklenburg High reported 53 scholarships worth about $645,800. Academic scholarships accounted for all of those scholarships.

Nearly 8,400 students graduated in 2013.
