Charter school earns accreditation

MOUNT HOLLY – Mountain Island Charter School has earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accreditation division of AdvancED.

To earn accreditation, schools must meet high standards, be evaluated by professionals from outside the school and focus on school improvement.
“Accreditation demonstrates to our students, parents and community that we are focused on raising student
achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective operation staffed by highly qualified educators,” Executive Director Justin Matthews said.
Mountain Island Charter received the highest level of accreditation in the form of a five-year term that extends until 2020. It earned exemplary scores from the Accreditation Commission in the areas of student learning, teacher quality and leadership capacity.
