Lennon overcomes cancer battle

CHARLOTTE – Twelve days after undergoing a second surgery as a result of a breast cancer diagnosis, Rhonda Lennon wore pink to an April school board meeting and reminded the public to get mammograms.
“All I have to look forward to is to encourage every woman in this community to benefit from early detection like I have and find themselves the ability to be cured from breast cancer,” Lennon said.
Lennon has opened up about battling cancer on Facebook and Twitter. She chooses not to be a victim, but a “pink princess warrior.”
At least a couple of colleagues on the school board say the experience has mellowed her a bit.
“I’m not really sure that’s true,” Lennon said, “but perhaps cancer does give you a new perspective on things.”
