Duck Race for polio awareness rescheduled

MOUNT HOLLY – The Rotary District 7680’s fundraising event at Tailrace Marina has been rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 17, due a rainout of the original event.

The event will include a rubber duck race to gather funds for the eradication of polio, which has been a primary mission of Rotary International for decades.

The festivities begin at 2 p.m. and continue until 6 p.m.

Nearly a dozen Rotary Clubs and Interact Clubs from the greater-Charlotte area will be directly participating. Ducks can be “adopted” the day of the race for $10 per duck or a “Quack-pack” of three ducks for $25. The proceeds of the duck race go to the Rotary Foundation to Eradicate Polio.

Prizes will be awarded for the 10 fastest ducks in the duck race, with $2,500 going to the first-place winner. It is expected that nearly 2,000 rubber ducks will float  upstream of the new Tailrace Marina.

Activities include a steel-drum band, boat rides, golf and cornhole contests, kayak and canoe rentals, a dunking booth, tropical food and barbecue.

Tailrace Marina is located on Tuckaseegee Road in Mount Holly.
