Scouts to help retire flags

Members of local Cub Scout packs and Boy Scout troops are collecting worn and tattered United States flags for a flag retirement ceremony scheduled for Veterans Day.

People can give their flags, as well as a dedication of 100 words or less to a loved one or U.S. veteran, to local Scouting units. The dedication will be read aloud by scouts while the flag is retired.

Take flags to any Charlotte-area Scouting unit or to the main office at 1410 E. Seventh St. Scouts will retire the flags at Marshall Park, following the Nov. 6 Veterans Day Parade.
