More left-turn signals coming

The N.C. Department of Transportation is ready to install more of the flashing left-turn traffic signals throughout the state.

The signals are designed to make it easier for drivers to safely turn left while still yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. The state installed 380 of the new signals already, and tests indicate the signals have helped drop traffic accidents by 37 percent in those areas.

It is not clear yet where the signals will be installed in Mountain Island. Drivers are encouraged to contact Greg Fuller at 919-661-5800 or gfuller@ncdot.gov with feedback or suggestions about the flashing left-turn signals.
