Community University providing free energy workshops

CHARLOTTE – The City of Charlotte’s Community University program is offering a series of free workshops focused on energy efficiency during December and January.

The workshops are open to all Charlotte residents and registration is required. For more information or to register, visit http://nbs.charlottenc.gov and click on Community University or call 704-336-2061. All workshops take place at Piedmont Natural Gas, 4720 Piedmont Row Drive in Charlotte. Free parking is available in the parking deck located next to the Piedmont Natural Gas office building. Eco-friendly giveaways will be raffled off at each workshop.

• Power2Charlotte: Charlotte’s Energy Efforts takes place Wednesday, Dec. 1, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The workshop will feature an explanation of the City’s Power2Charlotte Campaign initiative to engage and educate the community on energy efficiency and sustainability and introduce resources and services to help save energy, money and the environment

• Weatherization: Protecting Your Home from Winter Elements takes place Dec. 7 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. The workshop features home preparation and protection for winter, including improving energy efficiency through insulation, windows, doors and other improvements. Learn about financial assistance available for low-income families

• Save Energy, Save Money Tuesday takes place Jan. 11 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The workshop will help participants understand their home and impact on the environment. Learn steps homeowners can take to reduce energy.

• Understanding Energy 101: Energy Sources and Their Impact takes place Jan. 20 from 6:30 pm to 8 p.m. The seminar features an overview of various energy sources including coal, oil, gas, nuclear and solar and the impact of energy sources on the earth.
