Drop off Toys for Tots at Charlotte fire stations

CHARLOTTE – The Charlotte Fire Department has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to designate 40 Charlotte Fire Stations as official collection points for the ‘USMC Reserve Toys for Tots Program.’ In the Mountain Island area, Charlotte Fire Station 33, 2001 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, and Fire Station 25, 6741 Pleasant Grove Road, accept donations through December 15.
During the 62 years the USMC Reserve Toys for Tots Program has been in existence, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children.
Toys for Tots began in 1947, when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. In 1995, the Secretary of Defense approved Toys for Tots as an official activity of the U.S. Marine Corps and an official mission of the Marine Corps Reserve.
