Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful wins national award

CHARLOTTE – Mecklenburg County’s Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful recently received Keep America Beautiful President’s Circle Award at Keep America Beautiful’s 57th annual National Conference in Orlando, Fla.
The award recognizes exemplary performance by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit to reduce litter, minimize waste and recycle, and beautify their local communities. This is the seventh time Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful has been recognized with the award.
“We are honored to be recognized by Keep America Beautiful for the work the Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful Board does throughout the year,” Jake Wilson, executive director of Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful, said. “We’re looking forward to the challenges the New Year will bring.”
In 2001, the Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency was directed by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners to develop a plan to help clean up the roadside litter problem.
In qualifying for a President’s Circle Award, Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful has met Keep America Beautiful’s standards of excellence by conducting an annual Litter Index and engaging volunteers to take greater responsibility for their community environment.
