Citizen’s Police Academy session to begin in February

The Gaston County Police Department is currently taking applications for the 34th session of its Citizens’ Police Academy.

The Citizens’ Police Academy will be presented in eight sessions on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Class dates for this session are Feb. 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26 and April 2, 9, and 16.

The Citizens’ Police Academy will introduce participants to the various functions of the county police department. Topics will include crime scene search, vice, criminal investigations, recruiting, emergency response team, marine unit, crime analysis data, and bomb squad.

Participation in the Citizen Police Academy is free and is open to adults and high school juniors and seniors.

Applications can be picked up at County Police Headquarters located at 420 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia or at the Bessemer City Sub Station located at 132 W. Virginia Ave. Bessemer City. Applications are also available on the department’s website www.gastoncountypolice.org. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 23.
