Commissioners approve reimbursement program for feral cats

The Gaston County Board of Commissioners recently approved a resolution to help residents offset surgery costs for feral cats.
Under the proposal, animal control will administer a voucher program for residents. A citizen obtaining spays or neuters for feral cats would have surgery costs partially offset by animal control revenue.
Commonly referred to as “trap-neuter-release”, many Gaston County citizens routinely manage feral cat colonies and help decrease the number of feral litters by trapping these cats, having veterinarians perform surgery, then returning or releasing the altered cats back from where they came.
