Homes sales up, sales prices down

The latest release from the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association shows the number of homes sold in the Charlotte area increased in December 2010, while the average sales price of those homes dropped.

The 1,885 closings in December 2010 was a 23.4 percent increase over the same time last year, and were up 26.8 percent over the 1,487 closings seen in November 2010. The average sales price of $193,910 in December 2010 was down, however, 8.4 percent compared to December 2009. It also is a drop from the November 2010 average sales price of $215,239.

For the entire year, 10,631 homes were sold in Mecklenburg County. That’s nearly a 5 percent increase over the 10,131 homes sold in the county for all of 2009. The average sales price increase 4 percent over the same time frame, from $210,086 in 2009 to $218,456 in 2010.
