Goodwill offering free income tax prep

CHARLOTTE – Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont is providing income tax preparation to workers who earn low or moderate incomes and individuals with disabilities.

In partnership with the Internal Revenue Service and the Family Financial Literacy Coalition, Goodwill will operate a prep site at its Career Development Center, at 2122 Freedom Drive, during the 2011 tax season.

The Goodwill VITA site will be open by appointment on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. through April 18.

Goodwill sites across the country prepared more than 21,000 tax returns and helped families secure more than $33 million in tax refunds during the 2010 tax season.

What to bring:

• Photo ID

• Social Security Cards and birth dates for you, your spouse and your dependents (if you file a joint return with your spouse, both of you must be present to sign)

• Wage and earning statements from all employers or income sources

• Total amounts of itemized deductions (charitable contributions, donations, etc.)

• Bank documents for direct deposit
