Department may have new home

The city might have found a permanent location for its Street & Solid Waste Department.

Last month, the council approved $9,341 worth of renovations to its current facility but, ideally, would like to build a new home for the department. However, Councilman Jim Hope said the renovations to the existing facility are only temporary.

“It is important that the council understand this is a Band-Aid,” he said. “We need to move vigorously on finding them a new home.”

Hope said the city owns property on North Main Street that might provide a permanent solution for the department.

“This may be a good location for us to consider putting our Street & Solid Waste Department,” he said. “This is something that really needs to be looked at.”

The council asked city staff to examine the 7-acre site further and report back.
