Drought conditions improve after heavy rains

The U.S. Drought Monitor said major rainstorms that pushed through the area in early March have improved drought conditions to moderate levels. Mountain Island Lake though is still below its target depths, Duke Energy reports.

The several inches of rain that pelted the area dropped the drought conditions by 10 percent, the drought authority said.

The N.C. Drought Management Advisory Council now describes Mecklenburg County as suffering “moderate drought,” and authorities ask residents to conserve water until conditions improve.
