Historical Society finds new home

The Mount Holly Historical Society now has a permanent place to call home.

The City of Mount Holly has agreed let the society use the first floor of the old city hall at 131 S. Main St. to catalogue, preserve and display the city’s archives. The society will be the caretaker of the city’s archives.

The city will maintain the exterior of the building, as well as the heating and cooling, electrical and plumbing services and will pay for all utilities for one year. Officials are not charging the society rent.

The society can use the first floor to maintain office space, but may have to share it with the Mount Holly Tourism Board. No other organizations would be allowed to use the building.

The council and historical society approved the measure last month.
