Man, 29, dies in accident on Bellhaven Boulevard

A 29-year-old man died early on April 2 when his truck veered off Bellhaven Boulevard and struck three trees, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced Bobby Velagon Sayakhammy dead at the scene of the accident at 7500 Bellhaven Blvd., not far from its intersection with Brookshire Boulevard.

In a news release, police Detective Matthew Sammis said Sayakhammy was driving a 1989 Nissan pickup east on Bellhaven about 3:30 a.m. when he drove off the right side of the road and hit the trees.

The accident remains under investigation.

According to the Mecklenburg County Jail website, authorities arrested Sayakhammy, of Charlotte, on Dec. 22, 2010, and charged him with felony possession of methaphetamines, felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a revoked license.
