Public housing contract renewed

The Mount Holly City Council approved a one-year contract with Statesville Housing Authority to manage the city’s two public housing sites, Holly Hills and Rollins apartment complexes, on March 14.

Statesville Housing has been managing both sites since 2007, but recently asked the city to take over operations of both sites. The city would no longer have the housing department in its annual budget or audits. Also, the city would eliminate dealing with bank account issues and any responsibility to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and other organizations.

The council decided to move forward with the process last month, but renewing the contract gave members another year before taking any action on the issue.
