A Mighty Fortress Lutheran holds barbecue, yard sale May 14

CHARLOTTE – The Lutheran Men in Mission at A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, 8200 McClure Circle, will hold a fundraising barbecue May 14 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Women of  A Mighty Fortress will have a yard sale the same day from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lower parking lot. Sale spaces cost $10, and you can reserve a place by contacting the church at 704-392-6214 or amfgail@bellsouth.net. Proceeds from the bake sale will support the church’s Kitchen Fund.

Triple Js is cooking the barbecue – pork, beef, chicken or ribs. Buy a sandwich or your choice of three plates: small, regular or two-choice combos.

The men’s group also will lead the annual Men’s Service  at the church May 29, and Secretary-Treasurer Chuck Mick is looking for men, not necessarily members of the group, to participate. The other officers are Glenn Collins, president, and Richard Lautensleger, vice president.

In other news:

• The church is collecting eyeglasses for Charlotte Urban Ministry and the Room in the Inn.

• Church members are participating in the annual Letter Carriers’ Food Drive on May 14. Leave a bag of food at your mailbox, and the carriers will get it to local food pantries.

• Eric Hoffman and his crew of volunteers regularly perform repairs and maintenance around the church. Most recently, the crew fixed the moisture problem in the fellowship hall basement.
