First Methodist Rowdy 2 Relay team raises funds

MOUNT HOLLY – The Rowdy 2 Relay for Life Team of First United Methodist Church in Mount Holly will participate in the Relay for Life of East Gaston County on May 13 at the First United Methodist Church of Stanley on Hickory Gove Road.

The Rowdy 2 Team is raising funds in several ways, including:

• Selling four-packs of pink ribbon-shaped silly bands, $2; window clings, 50 cents; purple shoe strings, 50 cents; and purple links for the team’s purple chain, 50 cents.

• Collecting dimes. Each empty water bottle filled with dimes equals $100 for Relay.

• Accepting $10 donations to place a luminaries in the luminaries service at 9 p.m. on the track at the church’s family life center. Each luminary is a tribute to a cancer patient, and Rowdy 2 team members will walk around the track. The annual Survivor’s Lap takes place at 7 p.m.

Turn in luminaries forms to any team members – Shellie King,  Carol Smith, Katelynn Smith, Amanda Stallings, Dottie Brown, Angie Doedderlein, Kylie King or Zack King – or the church office.  The deadline is May 8.

Members of First United Methodist Church of Mount Holly will attend the Layperson of the Year 2001 banquet May 19 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, 6701 Idlewild Road, Charlotte. Winners from all area churches will be recognized at the dinner. Registration for the dinner starts at 6:30, and the meal begins at 7 p.m.

High school students applying for one of the church’s annual scholarships must get their forms in by May 15. Applicants must be an active member of the church who has participated regularly and plans to continue his or her education after graduation. Return the form to Chris Lutz or place it in her mailbox in the library. Church officials will announce the winners June 5.

Camp Loy White offers Kid’s Kingdom summer camp for rising first- through sixth-graders. Students from First United Methodist-Mount Holly go to camp June 27 to July 1, and applications are available on the Kid’s Kingdom bulletin board outside the Christian education office.
