Hopewell Presbyterian sponsors two homes in Haiti

HUNTERSVILLE – The governing board of Hopewell Presbyterian Church will give the Fuller Center and its ministry to Haiti for an $8,500 gift, which will pay to build two houses.

Millard and Linda Fuller, founders of Habitat for Humanity, established the Fuller Center, which is building permanent housing for Haitian families still recovering from the January 2010 earthquake. Hopewell hosted riders from the Fuller Center last year, and Hopewell’s pastor, the Rev. Allan Purtill, serves on the center’s advisory board.

The church continues to support the Callison family in Iraq and the Kennedy family in Egypt.

Witness Committee members are Chairwoman Barbara Cannon, John Blythe, Barbara Bostic, Sean Butler, Sherry Gaither, Wendy Lance, John Misenheimer, Rebecca Parks, Robert Parks and Michael Shore.

In other church activities:

• Hopewell’s Young at Heart group is taking its semi-annual trip to Myrtle Beach from May 9 to 12. The agenda includes two shows, two dinners and a trip to Ripley’s Aquarium.

• Church members take their 2011 Hopewell Golf Outing on May 21 to the Mooresville municipal golf course. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m., and the outing costs $50. The men of the church make the arrangements, but all members are invited.
