MOUNT HOLLY – CaroMont Health, Inc. can continue with plans to place a health resource center in Mount Holly’s Municipal Complex after the City Council gave the go-ahead last month.
At its Sept. 26 meeting, the Council unanimously approved a lease agreement with CaroMont Health, allowing them to use 10,098 square feet in the Municipal Complex, at 400 E. Central Ave., for a ten-year period.
“We are excited to be partnering with CaroMont Health,” said Mayor Brian Hough. “They will be a great tenant and work to improve the overall health and well-being of our community.”
The space that CaroMont Health will occupy is on the bottom floor of the complex, facing East Central Avenue, and takes up about 20 percent of the total 53,325 square feet available in the facility.
The rent for the first 60 months of the lease will be $49,176 per year. The rent will be subject to a one-time adjustment after 60 months based on an increase or decrease in the Consumer Price Index.
CaroMont Health has plans to upgrade to the mechanical systems and interior of the area that company officials project to cost $550,000.
Features and programs CaroMont Health plans to bring to the facility include a healthy eatery café with both seated and take-out fare. A community garden will be planted to educate people on sustainable living techniques and nutrition.
CaroMont Health will set up a co-op market featuring locally grown foods, and bicycle stands and possible bicycle rentals are in the works as well.
The company also plans to earmark space in the facility to hold workshops, seminars and other education opportunities on topics such as health and well-being. An outdoor area will be created where citizens can gather for exercise.
Another feature of CaroMont Health’s presence at the Municipal Complex will be a health resource center with computers, health exhibits, virtual reality displays and interactive health promotion stations similar to those at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.
There will also be an exercise area set aside by the company where citizens can take part in programs such as Tai Chi, aerobics, yoga and Zumba. Three health-coaching and consultation rooms will be available.
