Learn to make fertilizer through workshop

CHARLOTTE – With autumn approaching, Mecklenburg County wants to teach residents to go natural and learn to make fertilizer for spring gardening.
In an ongoing effort to reduce waste, experts from the county’s Solid Waste Management division have announced a series of workshops about composting and other methods of residential organic waste control.
The free workshops are held on the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.  Register online at www.wipeoutwaste.com, under the home composting tab, or call 704-336-4304.

• Oct. 15 at St. Alban’s Community Garden, 301 Caldwell Road, Davidson.
• Oct. 22 at McDowell Nature Preserve, 15222 York Road, Charlotte.
• Nov. 5 at St. Alban’s Community Garden, 301 Caldwell Road, Davidson.
• Nov. 12 at Reedy Creek Nature Center, 2900 Rocky River Road, Charlotte.
• Nov. 12 at McDowell Nature Preserve, 15222 York Road, Charlotte.
