Mount Holly earns designation of ‘Playful City’

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mount Holly has been named a 2011 “Playful City USA,” announced KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit that works to increase play opportunities for children.
According to a news release, Mount Holly was selected as one of the 151 playful cities because of its “outstanding dedication to play.” Mount Holly plans to improve and expand a number of its playspaces. The city installed a new playground at a local elementary school and will improve the equipment at two neighborhood parks to make the play areas more engaging for the kids.
All 151 Playful City USA communities are now eligible for grants via Let’s Play, a community partnership led by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group to get kids active nationwide. The first Let’s Play initiative is a $15 million, three-year commitment to KaBoom! That will build or repair 2,000 playgrounds by the end of 2012, benefiting an estimated five million children across North America.
