CHARLOTTE – All five wastewater treatment plants in Mecklenburg County earned Peak Performance Awards from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies for the calendar year ending 2010. The awards recognize wastewater treatment professionals throughout the nation for protecting the environment and public health through outstanding treatment and discharge regulatory compliance.
The McDowell Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant received the platinum award for its seventh consecutive year of perfect compliance, a news release said.
The McAlpine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant picked up a gold award (its third consecutive such award) for one year of perfect compliance, and Irwin Creek Wastewater Treatment plant won the silver award for fewer than five violations in one year.
