Military honors 90-year-old World War II veteran

MOUNT HOLLY – Friends and family of World War II veteran Ray Kiser celebrated the Stanley resident’s 90th birthday with a surprise party Nov. 12 in downtown.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Ronald Rhoades, Specialist Josh Rhoades and Specialist Wesley Brewington presented Kiser with an official letter and certificate from the U.S. Army thanking him for his service. He was also given a framed document of the U.S. Army Creed.

Kiser was born in Concord, drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1942 to 1946 as a Tec-5.
