IRS looks to return $153.3 million in tax refunds

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Internal Revenue Service is looking to return $153.3 million in undelivered tax refund checks to 99,123 taxpayers.

The federal agency could not deliver the checks because of mailing address errors.

Undelivered checks average $1,547 for 2011.

Taxpayers who did not receive a refund check should use the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on IRS.gov, which provides the status of their refund and, in some cases, instructions on how to resolve delivery problems. Taxpayers also can call 1-800-829-1954 for more information about their refunds.
