Fundraising event to benefit community relief organization

MOUNT HOLLY – A local tax service company plans to help the Mount Holly Community Relief Organization battle back from damage caused by a devastating August 2011 flashflood.

Liberty Tax Service of Mount Holly will hold a Mount Holly Community Relief Organization fundraiser and donation drive March 17 from noon to 4 p.m. at its office, 606 S. Main St.

Participants will have the opportunity to become acquainted with the organization and find opportunities to help with fundraising, donation and awareness efforts. Liberty Tax Services also will serve refreshments, and Lady Liberty will have activities for children who attend.

“This is a chance to meet some of the volunteers and find out first-hand how you can help,” said Peggy Putnam of the Mount Holly Community Relief Organization. “We are hoping to enlist 10 to 15 new volunteers, or potential volunteers, during our event.”

The Mount Holly Community Relief Organization, maintained for the community by the community, suffered the loss of their facility after a flashflood hit the downtown area last summer (see story on page 3). The organization, a United Way agency, helps to provide community members in need with help on past-due utility bills, food, toiletries, clothing and other services. It operates mainly on public and private donations and relies heavily on volunteer workers.
