Virginia W. Jones

CHARLOTTE – Virginia W. Jones, 91, formerly of Charlotte, died March 7, 2012 in Springboro, Ohio.

Born Sept. 1, 1920, Ms. Jones was the daughter of the late John Henry and Anna McCord Walton. She was a member of Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Eastern Star Eastgate Lodge and Mizphah Chapter 16. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and gardening.

Survivors include her children Carlene Silcox and husband, Forster, of Springboro, Ohio, and Carl Jones Jr. and wife, Annette, of Charlotte; grandchildren Courtney Gail Jones, Denise Bradshaw and husband, Tommy, Melissa Ferguson and husband, Mike, Angela Kvidera and husband, Jeff, and Ryan Silcox; brother Blythe Walton of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and eight great-grandchildren.

Her husband Carl A Jones and brother Vernon Walton preceded her in death.

A celebration of life service was held March 13 in the chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn West Cemetery.

Louise Holland Thompson

Louise Holland Thompson, 97, formerly of Mount Holly, died March 17, 2012, at the Stanley Total Living Center.

Born Oct. 2, 1914, in Mount Holly, Ms. Thompson was the daughter of the late Willis F. Holland and Nell Rankin Ho
lland. She was a 1936 graduate of Queen’s College and taught home economics at the former Mount Holly High School.

Her husband Richard M. “Dick” Thompson, a former coach and teacher at Mount Holly, Stanley and East Gaston high schools, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Linda Thompson Sherrill, of Stanley, Betsy Thompson Robinson and husband, Ronnie, of Stanley and Edward A. Thompson and wife, Becky, of Rock Hill, S.C.; sister Nancy Holland Smith and husband, Dave, of Advance; brother Tommy Holland and wife, Frances, of Charlotte; grandchildren Michael R. Sherrill, of Stanley, Matthew R. Sherrill and wife, Ali, of Mount Holly; Kyle M. Robinson and wife, Kelly, of Landis, Brian E. Thompson and wife, Robin, of Savannah, Ga., Jay C. Thompson of Charlotte, Scott J. Thompson and wife, Anna, of Greenville, S.C., Anne Sherrill Krug of Charlotte, and Paige Robinson Sisk and husband, Steve, of Mount Holly; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Noel Sweezy officiated a celebration of life service March 20 at The Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial followed at Hillcrest Gardens.

Robert Clay Sanderson

Robert Clay Sanderson, 31, of Charlotte, died Feb. 28, as a result of a car accident in Maryland.

Born Oct. 9, 1980, in Charlotte, Mr. Sanderson was the son of Gary Phillip Sanderson and Kay Eubank Sanderson. He was a N.C. State University graduate, an analytical chemist for Environmental Technology with Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities and a member of Mountain Island Church of Christ.

His grandfather, Zenas Eubank, and grandparents Robert and Thelma Sanderson preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Brandy Cooke Sanderson; daughter Bradlie Eva Sanderson; parents Gary and Kay Sanderson; brother Stephen Gary Sanderson and wife, Valerie; nephew Michael Sanderson; niece Aubrey Sanderson; and grandmother Eva Eubank.

The Revs. Terry Wheeler and Kirk Sams presided over a funeral service held March 2 at Mountain Island Church of Christ. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery West.

Gregory Lee Middleton

Gregory Lee Midleton, 31, of Charlotte, died March 10, 2012, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Mr. Middleton was the son of Allen Keith Middleton and Anne Thomas Godfrey, both of Charlotte.

Gregory was employed at R B Publishing as a graphic designer for Inside Wisconsin Sports. He graduated magna cum laude from UNC Charlotte where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in fine arts. In 2008, UNC Charlotte awarded him The Graphic Designer of the Year award. He also competed with the Mid-Atlantic Snow Board Association in Boone.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Lee Middleton and Pauline Flynn Middleton; grandparents E.L. Thomas and Nelda C. Thomas; and brother Christopher E. Middleton.

He his survived by his parents; stepfather, Brent Godfrey, of Charlotte; aunts Vickie Price and husband, Ed, Elaine Mills and husband, Barry, Lynn Keever, Laura Lawson and husband, Mike; uncle Joe Thomas and wife, Elizabeth; two nieces, two nephews and many cousins.

The Rev. Gary Bryant presided over a celebration of life service March 14 at Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. Burial followed at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
