State reports test scores for area schools

The grades are in for Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Gaston County schools for the 2011-12 school year.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has released its annual NC School Report Card report on students’ test results, school violence and teacher certification in all of the state’s public schools.

Here are some of the highlights:

Coulwood Middle

Out of the school’s 826 students, 54.5 percent passed reading end-of-grade tests and 75.1 percent passed math.

The school reported 27 violent or criminal incidents.

Coulwood Middle has 54 classroom teachers, 85 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has 5 teachers who are national-board certified.

Bradley Middle

Out of the school’s 1,152 students, 80.8 percent passed reading end-of-grade tests and 87.6 percent passed math.

The school reported 17 violent or criminal incidents.

Bradley Middle has 68 classroom teachers, 96 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has nine teachers who are national-board certified.

East Gaston High

The school had 1,456 students. Of those taking end-of-course tests, 82.6 percent passed in English I, 69.6 percent in Algebra 1 and 88 percent in biology.

The school reported 15 violent or criminal incidents.

East Gaston has 83 classroom teachers, 95 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has 12 teachers who are national-board certified.

Hopewell High

The school had 1,668 students. Of those taking end-of-course exams, 84.8 percent passed in English I, 71.9 percent in Algebra I and 82.1 percent in biology.

The school reported 23 violent or criminal incidents.

Hopewell High has 98 classroom teachers, 96 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has 14 teachers who are national-board certified.

Lake Norman Charter

The school had 1,579 students. Of the students in middle school who took end-of-grade tests, 90.6 percent in English and more than 95 percent passed in math. More than 95 percent of students enrolled in English I, Algebra I and biology passed end-of-course tests.

The school reported three acts of crime or violence.

Lake Norman Charter has 88 classroom teachers, 95 percent of whom are fully licensed.

Lincoln Charter

The school had 1,374 students. Of the students taking end-of-grade tests, 90.5 percent passed in reading and more than 95 percent passed in math. More than 95 percent of student passed end-of-course tests in English I, 92.9 percent passed biology and 93.3 passed Algebra I.

The school reported one act of crime or violence.

Lincoln Charter has 77 classroom teachers, 87 percent of whom are fully licensed.

Long Creek Elementary

The school has 520 students. Of those taking end-of-grade tests, 69.5 percent passed reading and 85.5 percent passed math.

The school reported five incidents of crime or violence.

Long Creek Elementary has 37 classroom teachers, 97 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school, which has an 11 percent teacher turnover rate, has nine teachers who national-board certified.

Mount Holly Middle

Out of the school’s 788 students, 74.1 percent passed reading end-of-grade tests and 86.1 percent passed math.

The school reported eight violent or criminal incidents.

Mount Holly Middle has 40 classroom teachers, 98 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has four teachers who are national-board certified.

Mountain Island Charter

The school had 704 students. Out of those taking end-of-grade tests, 85.9 percent passed in reading and 90.2 percent passed in math.

The school reported one act of crime or violence.

Mountain Island Charter has 47 classroom teachers, 85 percent of whom are fully licensed.

Mountain Island Elementary

The school had 623 students. Of the students taking end-of-grade exams, 74.2 percent passed reading and 83.4 percent passed math.

The school reported eight violent or criminal incidents.

Mountain Island Elementary has 40 classroom teachers, 98 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has 19 teachers who are national-board certified.

Paw Creek Elementary

The school had 487 students. Of those taking end-of-grade exams, 61.8 percent passed reading and 79.5 percent passed math.

The school reported two violent or criminal incidents.

Paw Creek has 40 classroom teachers, 98 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has eight teachers who are national-board certified.

Pinewood Elementary

The school had 538 students. Of those taking end-of-grade tests, 67.3 percent passed reading and 78.2 percent passed.

The school reported five violent or criminal incidents.

Pinewood has 30 classroom teachers, all of whom are fully licensed. The school has eight teachers who are national-board certified.

Rankin Elementary

The school had 616 students. Of those who took end-of-grade tests, 72.2 percent passed reading and 83.4 percent passed math.

The school reported no violent or criminal incidents.

Rankin Elementary has 32 classroom teachers, 100 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has eight teachers who are national-board certified.

River Oaks Academy

The school had 613 students. Of those taking end-of-grade tests, 64.9 percent passed reading and 78.3 percent passed math.

The school reported two violent or criminal incidents.

River Oaks has 42 classroom teachers, 98 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has seven teachers who are national-board certified.

West Mecklenburg High

The school had 1,761 students. Of those enrolled in classes with end-of-course exams, 68.7 percent passed in English I, 58.7 percent in Algebra I and 76.6 percent in biology.

The school reported 35 violent or criminal incidents.

West Mecklenburg has 126 classroom teachers, 84 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has 12 teachers who are national-board certified.

Whitewater Academy

The school had 700 students. Of those taking end-of-course tests, 55.1 percent passed reading and 74.3 percent passed math.

The school reported nine violent or criminal incidents.

Whitewater Academy has 44 classroom teachers, 98 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has 13 teachers who are national-board certified.

Whitewater Middle

Out of the school’s 868 students, 50.7 percent passed reading end-of-grade tests and 65.1 percent passed math.

The school reported 18 violent or criminal incidents.

Whitewater Middle has 56 classroom teachers, 75 percent of whom are fully licensed. The school has one teacher who is national-board certified.
