Belmont, Mount Holly join Million Mile Challenge

Local towns are challenging residents to get active this year by participating in the Million Mile Challenge.

The challenge asks people living in the five towns along the two rivers of the South Fork and Catawba to log a million miles of physical activity by May 2014.

Walking to school or in pairs around the block, jogging around the neighborhood and riding a bicycle to the grocery store or the park will all count toward the goal of posting a million miles as a community. The challenge gets people outside, having fun and making friends while getting a little bit healthier.

The challenge launched in May with the Belmont Criterium cycling race.

Later this spring and summer there will be other regional community events involving each of our towns, such as a community family bike ride connecting Belmont, Cramerton, Lowell, McAdenville and Mount Holly.

The towns can achieve the goal if every person logs a half-mile – roughly a walk around the block – once a week for the year.

Register for free and log your activity at www.m2challenge.org.
