Hospital, county extend lease

GASTONIA – CaroMont Health and the Gaston County Board of Commissioners agreed to change the lease for the structure and property that houses the hospital.
The agreement was signed March 12 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
CaroMont Health agreed to pay $20 million to Gaston County, invest $200 million in campus-based capital over the next decade and give $450,000 annually for community health promotion.
In exchange, the lease is extended 40 years and commissioners share governance and appointments to the hospital’s board.
Commissioner Jason Williams described the agreement as a positive step for both parties.
“The strength of our partnership will ensure that our citizens, their children and their grandchildren will continue to benefit from having a local, independent health system dedicated to investing in the community and the lives of its citizens,” Williams said.
