Charlotte Eagles join USL PRO

The Charlotte Eagles, a longtime United Soccer Leagues team, will join the newly established USL PRO for the club’s 18th year of competition.

Created through a merger of the USL First and Second divisions, USL PRO will represent the highest level of competition in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean outside Major League Soccer.

By joining USL PRO, the Eagles will be part of a national league that features a regional competition model to build natural rivalries. USL PRO is expected to have as many as four geographic regions in 2011. Seven teams, including the Eagles’ former USL-2 rivals Charleston Battery and Richmond Kickers, have already announced their intent to compete in USL PRO.
