The I-MECK 4A conference boys and girls basketball championship games will be held Friday, Feb. 18, at Hopewell High School.

In first-round boys action on Feb. 14, Hopewell and North Meck advanced to the semifinals. Hopewell squeaked past Vance, 58-55, as senior Michael Russell pumped in 17 points, including the game-winning shot at the buzzer, and center Elliot Pope added 13.

The win moved the Titans into a Feb. 16 showdown with West Charlotte, which is the No. 2 team in the Weekly Super 10 Basketball Rankings. However, Hopewell fell to the Lions, 66-58. West Charlotte now will face Mooresville, which upset North Mecklenburg, 86-78, in Friday’s boys championship game.

Tip-off for the Feb. 17 semifinal between Hopewell and Lake Norman game was slated for 7:30 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship to face either Hough or Mallard Creek.

The Friday championships begin at 6:30 p.m. with the girls game. The boys game starts at approximately 8 p.m. Admission is $7.
