The West Mecklenburg High School boys swimming and diving team finished in 12th place at last weekend’s 4A Western Regional meet in Huntersville.

While no Hawk won a gold medal in an individual event, several of West Meck competitors hovered around the top 10.

Langdon Rawls and Sean Williamson turned in the highest individual performances among the Hawks. Rawls finished 11th in the 50-yard freestyle, while Williamson held the same position in the 100 free. Harrison Brown took 12th place in a pair of events: the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle.

West Meck’s strongest finish came in the 200 freestyle relay, where the Hawks finished 10th. The relay squad included Williamson, Brown, Rawls and Steven Ryle. The same quartet was 14th in the 200 medley relay. The West Meck boys also had an 11th-place showing in the 400 freestyle relay, as Rawls, Ryle and Williamson were joined by Connor McCullough in the event.

The West Meck girls 200 medley relay team of Victoria Stanford, Cassie Coleman, Tori Caudill and Allison Taylor took 18th place.
