Sport Shorts for December

December unkind to Warriors basketball

MT. HOLLY – East Gaston High’s boys basketball team got its 2012-13 season off to a hot start in November. The Warriors won their first three games.

The team’s December run was a different story.

East Gaston lost five of six in the month, with a 79-55 win over cross-county rival North Gaston on Dec. 11 keeping the Warriors from a winless holiday slate.

The Warriors’ five losses were a mixed bag. East Gaston lost by just three to Charlotte Catholic, 68-65 on Dec. 7, but no other loss was by less than 10 points.

East Gaston travels to Garinger High on Jan. 8, followed by a road trip to Gastonia Ashbrook Jan. 11 and a home contest against West Mecklenburg High Jan. 18.

DeSean Murray leads the Warriors in scoring, averaging 20.8 points per game.

CHARLOTTE – West Mecklenburg High struggled coming out of the gate in the 2012-13 boys basketball season.
